Auction Rules

As soon as the auction date has been announced, each team franchise is ready to buy the players. IPL committee has set some rules and regulations for the upcoming auction and each team has to follow these rules in order to participate. Following are the details of the rules:

Number of retaining players: Similar to the previous mega auction 10 teams are going to participate in the upcoming auction but in the previous season, each team can retain only four players. There is no such restriction in the upcoming season and each team can retain or release players according to their budget.

Increased purse amount: IPL has increased the purse amount for each franchise by INR 50 million. Franchises can use this amount with the amount of money they have saved in the previous season to buy the players for their teams.

Trading window: The franchises can trade or exchange players till 15th November. They have to submit the list of retaining players on the 15th of November and after that, the auction for the released players will happen.

Team players: Each team can have 25 players with 8 foreign players. The maximum number of players in a team can be 18.

Right-to-match card: The right-to-match card will be given to each team to retain players in the upcoming auction. This card is used to retain a player by matching the highest bid placed for him during the auction. For example, if Chennai Super Kings release a player from their team and Delhi Capitals pick him for INR 30 million, so for CSK to retain that player, they can use the right-to-match card to buy that player back for INR 30 million.
